Germany has taken unprecedented measures.
The Bundestag approved a "fuel discount" for residents of Germany, with prices for gasoline and diesel set to decrease by approximately 17 cents per liter. If the corresponding law is approved by the Bundesrat, the "fuel discount" will be in effect from May 1 to June 30, Deutsche Welle reports. According to preliminary estimates, the average car owner will save a "small double-digit amount in euros" over the two-month period. The measure will cost the government about 1.6 billion euros.
This is the response of the German authorities to the oil supply crisis due to the war between Israel and the U.S. against Iran and the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. Previously, the first package of measures was adopted: gas stations were allowed to raise prices only once a day - at 12:00, and the cartel office received expanded powers. These measures have not yet had a significant effect on prices.
