Zelensky Sounds the Alarm: Why Trump Won’t Be a Shield for the World in Ukraine?

The President of Ukraine expressed serious concerns, stating that mere belief that fear of Donald Trump will deter Russia from new aggression is a dangerous misconception, not a reliable defense.

Concerns About Deterring Aggression

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed deep concern, emphasizing that the lack of a real presence of international partners at the contact line leaves Russia without deterrents. He emotionally questioned: "What security guarantees are being given to Ukraine? If there is no presence of our partners at the contact line, then why wouldn’t the Russians start an offensive again after some time? Why? I just don’t understand why? I see no reasons. What will limit them? What?"

Doubts About the 'Trump Factor'

The Ukrainian leader also touched upon the issue of security guarantees provided by the United States. Zelensky critically assessed the U.S. assumption that Russia allegedly would not dare to escalate further, fearing a possible harsh reaction from Donald Trump. He stated directly: "For example, the U.S. says - President Trump. President Trump is still two and a half years away, so what will we do then?"

U.S. Conditions and Future Guarantees

It is worth recalling that earlier the American side had voiced its readiness to provide Ukraine with full security guarantees only after the complete cessation of all hostilities. However, this critically important issue is directly linked there to the fulfillment of conditions, including the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from parts of the territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

In response to these challenges, Ukraine is actively working on creating an updated document on security guarantees. This document is intended to ensure reliable protection for the country against possible renewed aggression from Russia and clearly define the mechanisms for prompt response from international partners.
