Warsaw is categorically against the presence of French Rafale fighters with nuclear weapons in its airspace. This statement was made by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk during a recent meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron in Gdańsk.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk clearly stated Warsaw's position: the country does not wish to see French Rafale fighters equipped with nuclear bombs in its skies. This statement was made during his meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron, which took place in Gdańsk.
During the same meeting, President Macron confirmed that active work in the field of nuclear deterrence "will continue in the coming months." He added: "We are exchanging information. Various solutions are possible." In response, Donald Tusk emphasized the extreme delicacy of issues related to cooperation in the field of nuclear security. The Polish Prime Minister candidly stated: "Honestly, I would not want Rafale fighters with nuclear bombs flying over Poland, but I know that you have no such plans."
Nevertheless, Tusk stressed that "Poland is among the countries that have expressed interest and accepted France's invitation to cooperate in this area." He also noted that the dialogue between the Polish and French sides on security and military interaction covers a very wide range of topics.
It is worth reminding that earlier, President Macron proposed the idea of creating a new pan-European nuclear deterrence system. In October 2025, he had already announced work on updating France's nuclear doctrine.
In early March 2026, President Macron also made a loud statement. He announced that Paris plans to increase the number of warheads in its nuclear arsenal and to begin construction of a nuclear submarine equipped with ballistic missiles.
