Escalation in the Persian Gulf: Iran Responded with a Strike on U.S. Ships After Attack on Its Vessel

Tehran used drones to attack American warships in response to a recent incident involving an Iranian vessel.

Iranian armed forces struck several U.S. warships with drones, marking a decisive response to the attack on the Iranian container ship 'Tuska'. This vessel was en route from China to Iran, according to the Tasnim agency.

"An hour ago [U.S. President Donald] Trump stated that American terrorists seized this ship. Iran has already announced that it will respond to any actions by the Americans," the source quotes the message.

Closure of the Strait of Hormuz

On the evening of April 18, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) made a radical decision, completely closing the Strait of Hormuz to all vessels. This step was a direct reaction to the fact that the United States had not lifted the maritime blockade of Iranian ports, imposed on April 13.

The Supreme National Security Council of Iran issued a stern warning that any American obstacles to the movement of Iranian vessels along maritime trade routes would be regarded by Tehran as a gross violation of the ceasefire. The Iranian leadership also categorically stated that it would not tolerate a "conditional or limited opening" of the Strait of Hormuz for other shipping participants.

Trump's Reaction and Negotiations

In response, on April 19, Donald Trump called the closure of the Strait of Hormuz by the Iranians a direct violation of the ceasefire regime. In his opinion, such a decision would lead to colossal daily losses for the Iranian economy amounting to $500 million, as many tankers would now be forced to head to the U.S. for oil.

The White House chief once again urged Tehran to agree to American terms during negotiations, threatening that otherwise the U.S. military would "destroy every power plant and every bridge" in the Islamic Republic. He also added that the American delegation would head to Pakistan on the evening of April 19 to participate in the second round of negotiations with Iran.
