The U.S. is exploring the possibility of reallocating some weapons intended for Ukraine to support the war against Iran. This could impact Ukraine's defense capabilities amid its defensive war against Russia, WP reports.

The Pentagon is considering the possibility of transferring some weapons originally intended for Ukraine to the Middle East, The Washington Post (WP) reported on Thursday, March 26, citing three informed sources. This includes interceptor missiles for air defense systems purchased under a NATO initiative launched in 2025: under this program, partner countries acquire American weapons for Kyiv.

The consideration of this issue coincided with an increase in American operations in the Middle Eastern region. U.S. Central Command Chief Admiral Brad Cooper stated on March 25 that American forces have struck more than 10,000 targets in Iran and are systematically limiting Tehran's ability to "project power beyond its borders."

A Pentagon representative told WP that the U.S. Department of Defense "will provide American forces, as well as the forces of allies and partners, with everything necessary for combat operations and victory."

NATO: Supplies to Ukraine Continue

Meanwhile, a NATO spokesperson responded to a request from Reuters, stating that alliance members and partners continue to participate in the Priority Procurement Program for Ukraine (PURL), which funds the supply of American weapons to Kyiv. "Equipment is continuously arriving in Ukraine," the alliance representative emphasized. According to him, the amount of funds promised under PURL already amounts to several billion dollars, and new contributions are expected.

The Pentagon and the U.S. Department of State did not respond to Reuters' requests. Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that NATO countries have "done absolutely nothing" to assist regarding the situation with Iran. "The U.S. needs nothing from NATO, but 'never forget' this very important point!" Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social on March 26.
