The Mossad's Plan to Organize a Uprising in Iran Revealed 0 14

David Barnea, the head of the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad, proposed a plan to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. President Donald Trump to organize an uprising in Iran before the war with Iran began. This was reported by The New York Times (NYT) citing sources.

"As the U.S. and Israel prepared for war with Iran, the head of Mossad [David Barnea] approached Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with a proposal. (...) Barnea stated that just a few days after the war began, his agency would likely be able to mobilize the Iranian opposition, provoking unrest and other acts of defiance that could even lead to the fall of the Iranian government," the publication said.

Despite doubts about the feasibility of the plan expressed by senior U.S. officials and some staff from other Israeli intelligence agencies, Israeli leadership approved Barnea's proposals. Netanyahu and Trump believed that the elimination of the Iranian leadership at the very beginning of the conflict, followed by a series of operations aimed at facilitating regime change, could lead to a mass uprising capable of quickly ending the war.
