Russia has sent two tankers with oil and gas to Cuba, reports the British newspaper Financial Times, citing data from a ship tracking service, LETA writes, referencing Meduza.
The vessel "Sea Horse" flying the flag of Hong Kong, carrying 27,000 tons of Russian gas, is expected to arrive in Cuba on March 23.
In turn, on April 4, the tanker "Anatoly Kolodkin" with more than 700,000 barrels of oil is expected to arrive in Cuba.
If the vessels arrive in Cuba, these will be the first deliveries of energy resources to the island in three months since the U.S. began implementing an energy blockade against Cuba.
At the end of January, U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to impose increased tariffs on all countries supplying energy resources to Cuba.
At the same time, on March 12, the U.S., seeking to curb rising oil prices caused by the war with Iran, eased sanctions on Russian oil imposed due to Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine.
At the end of January, Trump stated that the U.S. could carry out a "friendly takeover of Cuba."
This week he said it could be an honor for him "to take control of Cuba in one way or another."
"I believe I can do whatever I want with it. Right now it is a very weakened country," Trump stated.
