The parliamentarian commented on the decision of the Saeima commission regarding the new immigration bill.
Saeima deputy Janis Dombrava (National Alliance) lamented the inconsistency of his colleagues from the parliamentary commission on defense and internal affairs. The commission continues to work on a new immigration bill.
"The defense commission periodically makes very different and difficult-to-explain decisions. Today at the meeting:
-
rejected my proposal to establish quotas (maximum number) for how many citizens of third countries can obtain residence permits. Institutions and services clearly signal that they have reached maximum capacity. If the number of immigrants continues to grow, control will disappear, and this may lead to problems with rising crime and terrorism.
-
rejected the proposal of Celapiters, which was also supported by the Ministry of Education - to establish higher knowledge of the state language for foreigners wishing to obtain permanent residence permits.
-
rejected the proposal of Kulbergs to restore residence permits for foreigners purchasing five-year government bonds (this provision has long been sought to be excluded by the State Treasury, as it only creates financial and administrative problems for the state)," concluded Deputy Dombrava.
