TWZ: after the ATACMS missile strike, the Russian Varshavyanka-class submarine sank in Iran.
After the strike of the American Army TACtical Missile System (ATACMS) on the naval base of Bandar Abbas in Iran, a Varshavyanka-class submarine (NATO designation - Kilo class) of Russian manufacture sank, reports TWZ.
The destruction of the Iranian submarine by the ATACMS strike was announced by the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the U.S. Armed Forces, General Dan Kane. According to TWZ, it is specifically about the Varshavyanka-class submarine, and not other submarines that the Iranian Navy had — the Fateh and Ghadir-class submarines.
Earlier, the publication reported that the Iranian Varshavyanka-class submarine of Russian manufacture sank due to the U.S. strike on the naval base of Bandar Abbas in Iran.
The Iranian side had three diesel-electric submarines of the Tareq class (modernized Varshavyanka-class submarines), two Fateh-class submarines, and several Ghadir-class mini-submarines. The Tareq-class submarine was the largest and most advanced type of Iranian submarines. The submarines were 74 meters long, could carry 18 torpedoes, and could remain underwater for days.
