New Anti-Government Protests Erupt in Iran

FT: In Iran, students have taken to the streets for new anti-government protests. The head of the U.S. Department of the Treasury, Scott Bessent, admitted to provoking mass protests in Iran.

New anti-government protests have begun in Iran. According to the British publication Financial Times, on the first day of the new academic semester, students from several universities on campus grounds clashed with pro-government groups.

The protests involved students from prestigious technical universities named after Amir Kabir and Sharif, located in central and western Tehran. All students chanted slogans against the Iranian authorities and the country's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The report also specifies that all protests are taking place against the backdrop of escalating tensions in Iran's relations with the United States of America (USA).

Prolonged protests began in Iran in December 2025 amid the devaluation of the local currency—the Iranian rial. Approximately two thousand people died during the protests.

Earlier, the head of the U.S. Department of the Treasury, Scott Bessent, admitted to provoking mass protests in Iran.
