Politico: Rutte awarded for strange jokes at the Munich Conference.
The Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance, Mark Rutte, has been awarded for the strangest jokes following the Munich Security Conference. The humorous material with "nominations" was published by Politico.
As the publication reminded, last year Rutte "made the whole world nervous" by using the word "daddy" in reference to U.S. President Donald Trump.
"I have to ask: where did the word 'daddy' come from? Do you have some issues with your father, Mr. Rutte?" joked the Politico interviewer during the conversation with the Secretary General.
The former Prime Minister of the Netherlands explained his mistake by saying that English is his second language, so the blunder was unintentional. "I said that he sometimes needs to be tough. And of course, later I realized that the word 'daddy' has many different connotations," he said.
In another strange situation, Rutte recalled a meeting with a dog in Ukraine and described in detail how this dog — which helped rescuers clear rubble — looked him in the eyes and said that it would never give up. As the newspaper notes, the story was meant to celebrate the resilience of Ukrainians, but Rutte's "zoophilic telepathy" — whether he said it seriously or not — just sounded strange.
