A Russian court found journalist Ekaterina Kotrikadze of the 'Dozhd' TV channel guilty of spreading "fake news" about the Russian army and sentenced her to eight years in prison in absentia, local media report, citing LETA referencing Meduza.
The Golovinsky District Court of Moscow also prohibited Kotrikadze from administering internet sites for four years after serving her sentence.
The prosecution demanded nine years of imprisonment for the journalist. Kotrikadze did not admit her guilt.
The case of "fake news" against "Dozhd" was initiated in the summer of 2025.
Along with Kotrikadze, journalist Valeria Ratnikova and the editor-in-chief of "Dozhd", Tikhon Dzyadko, were also charged in absentia.
In October, they were included in the list of terrorists and extremists maintained by the Federal Financial Monitoring Service.
