Ukraine Plans to Completely Ban Russian-Language Literature

The State Committee of Ukraine for Television and Radio Broadcasting is preparing a draft resolution that will create a mechanism for withdrawing publishing products from Russia, as well as products made in the Russian language. This was stated in a comment to Interfax-Ukraine by the Minister of Culture of Ukraine, Tatyana Berezhnaya.

"There is a law on publishing that prohibits the distribution of products of four types: those that promote war, violence, and totalitarian regimes; those that justify the occupation of Ukrainian territories; those that create a positive image of the aggressor state or its institutions; and those that contain anti-Ukrainian meanings. So, at the legislative level, this is generally laid out," said Berezhnaya.

She noted that the State Committee for Television and Radio Broadcasting is currently working on a resolution that should create the corresponding mechanism in Ukraine.

"We are coordinating with the State Committee for Television and Radio Broadcasting, considering that this concerns publishing, and we will support this resolution to adopt it in the government as soon as possible," added Berezhnaya.

When asked whether there is a need and possibility for a complete ban on the printing and distribution of printed products in the Russian language in Ukraine, the Deputy Prime Minister noted that the aforementioned draft resolution being prepared by the State Committee for Television and Radio Broadcasting will include "both Russian and Russian-language books." According to her, work on this mechanism has intensified after the corresponding petition gained the necessary number of votes.
