Former Eurocommissioner Nicolas Schmit criticized the leadership style of European Commission (EC) President Ursula von der Leyen for excessive centralization of power. His words are reported by Politico.

"I have the impression that the members of the commission have largely been silenced. The system is very centralized — call it presidential or whatever you like. It is not suitable for the college of commissioners, not suitable for the European Commission, and not suitable for Europe as a whole," he said.

At the same time, the publication notes that Schmit is not the first to voice such criticism. Another former Eurocommissioner, Thierry Breton, also pointed to the excessive concentration of power in von der Leyen's hands, emphasizing that Europe "was not created for an empress or an emperor."
