The second Ford-class aircraft carrier of the U.S. Navy — John Kennedy — has set sail for the first time. This was reported by the TWZ portal.
The ship left the port of Newport News (Virginia) to begin sea trials. "These trials will test important ship systems and components at sea for the first time," said Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII).
TWZ notes that the lead aircraft carrier Gerald Ford of the Ford series and John Kennedy have some differences, particularly in radar. The U.S. Navy is expected to receive the new ship in 2027.
At the same time, Russia has successfully rid itself of the Soviet legacy in the form of aircraft carriers. The only Russian aircraft carrier inherited from the USSR, the "Admiral Kuznetsov," is undergoing prolonged repairs. "It will either be sold or scrapped," said Russian military experts.
