Russia has withdrawn its troops from Qamishli airport in northeastern Syria, in the territory of the former Kurdish autonomy.
The withdrawal of troops and weapons began last week, reported Reuters on Monday, January 26, citing sources, quoting "Meduza". It was expected that some of the forces would move to the Russian airbase Khmeimim in western Syria, while others would return to Russia.
In the last two days, military equipment and heavy weapons were transported from Qamishli to Khmeimim, a source in the Syrian security service told the agency.
A Reuters journalist noted that on January 26, Russian flags were still flying at the Qamishli airport, and two planes with Russian identification marks were standing on the runway.
At the same time, the publication "Al-Monitor" released a video from its correspondent, allegedly filmed on the territory of the Russian base in Qamishli. The footage shows items left at the airport during the troop withdrawal, as well as Russian flags waving above the communication tower.
