China has launched an investigation against high-ranking military officials

CCTV: the authorities of the People's Republic of China have launched an investigation against two high-ranking military officials.

The authorities of the People's Republic of China have initiated an anti-corruption investigation against two high-ranking military officials. This was reported by China Central Television (CCTV) citing the country's Ministry of Defense.

It is specified that the investigation concerns Zhang Youse, the deputy chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC), and General Liu Zhenli, the chief of the CMC Joint Staff, who are suspected of "serious violations of discipline and law."

In August of last year, Bloomberg reported that Chinese President Xi Jinping had begun the largest personnel purges among military elites since the time of the first chairman of the republic, Mao Zedong. In particular, it was claimed that the head of state may have dismissed about 20 percent of all generals.
