Von der Leyen Threatens Trump with Europe's Revenge

Von der Leyen: The EU's response to U.S. tariffs will be unwavering, united, and proportionate. In the end, will ordinary citizens have to pay for everything?

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen criticized U.S. President Donald Trump for his decision to impose tariffs on certain European Union (EU) countries due to the situation surrounding Greenland. She made this statement on the sidelines, as reported by Bloomberg.

"The EU and the United States agreed on a trade deal last July. In both politics and business, a deal is a deal. And when friends shake hands, it should mean something," she said.

At the same time, she emphasized that the EU's response to the imposition of tariffs will be "unwavering, united, and proportionate," without specifying in what form it would follow.

Von der Leyen noted that the countries of Northern Europe have sufficient capabilities to ensure stability and order in the Arctic. She also indicated that due to the tensions surrounding Greenland, the European Union intends to strengthen measures to ensure its own security.

On January 17, Trump announced the imposition of 10 percent tariffs against several European Union countries as a measure due to the situation surrounding Greenland. The tariffs will affect Denmark, Sweden, France, Germany, the Netherlands, and Finland, as well as non-EU countries the United Kingdom and Norway.
