Local authorities in the Australian city of Sydney closed a 30-kilometer stretch of beaches on Tuesday in response to three shark attacks over two days, LETA reported citing DPA.

The Northern Beaches Council announced that all 34 beaches in the area will be closed until further notice.

"We urge swimmers and surfers to stay informed about beach closures and check the current status updates," the council stated.

On Sunday, a shark attacked a 13-year-old boy while he was swimming in shallow water at Shark Beach in eastern Sydney. The boy sustained injuries to both legs and was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

On Monday, at another beach, a shark bit through another boy's surfboard.

On Monday evening, a shark bit an adult surfer at North Steyne Beach. The man suffered serious leg injuries and was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

According to official data from 2025, sharks in Australia have injured about 20 people annually over the past 10 years, with an average of 2.8 attacks per year resulting in fatalities.
