Ukraine and Russia Have Come Closer to Peace Than Ever - U.S. NATO Representative

Whitaker stated that there is already a real proposal, and the peace negotiations have reached a decisive stage.

Right now, Ukraine and Russia have come closer to a peace agreement than ever before. This was stated by the U.S. Permanent Representative to NATO, Matthew Whitaker, during a speech at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation event in California.

"I think we are as close as we have ever been. Essentially, we just need to close the deal," he said.

Whitaker emphasized that the final decisions that should conclude the resolution of the war may be the most challenging. Nevertheless, according to him, there is already a real proposal, and the peace negotiations have reached a decisive stage.

"In football (American football - UNIAN), the last yard in the red zone is the hardest. I think this idea applies here as well. The last yard will not be easy, but I have a good feeling," Whitaker assured.

The War in Ukraine May End as Early as 2026

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the war could end in the first half of 2026. According to him, the negotiations have reached a new milestone.

Zelensky noted that the European Union plays a key role in the peace process. He added that sanctions against Russia, support for Ukraine, and strengthening its defense capabilities contribute to its ability to withstand the enemy.
