Denmark to Strengthen Military Presence in Greenland

Denmark will strengthen its military presence in its autonomous territory of Greenland, Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen announced on Wednesday, LETA reported citing AFP.

“We will continue to strengthen our military presence in Greenland, but we will also focus even more on conducting more exercises and increasing NATO's presence in the Arctic within the framework of NATO,” the minister stated.

Denmark “continues dialogue with its allies about new and enhanced actions in 2026,” he added.

U.S. President Donald Trump and White House representatives have repeatedly stated that Greenland should become part of the United States, not ruling out the possibility of using military force to achieve this goal.

The U.S. also criticizes Denmark for not paying enough attention to the defense of Greenland.

Today, negotiations between U.S. and Danish representatives regarding Greenland are expected at the White House.
