Machado Promises to Return to Venezuela as Soon as Possible

Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado stated on Monday that she plans to return to her homeland as soon as possible and criticized interim president Delcy Rodriguez, LETA reported citing AFP.

"I plan to return to Venezuela as soon as possible," Machado said to Fox News host Sean Hannity in an interview recorded in an undisclosed location.

Machado added that, in her opinion, interim president Delcy Rodriguez "is one of the main architects of torture, persecution, corruption, and drug trafficking."

In the interview, Machado also stated that a "free Venezuela" with the largest oil reserves in the world will become "the energy hub of North and South America." "We will turn Venezuela into the energy center of America," Machado said.

It was previously reported that on Monday, Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez took an oath as interim president and expressed her readiness to cooperate with Washington.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife were detained on Saturday during a U.S. military operation and brought to New York, where they will be charged in connection with drug trafficking in the U.S.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that Washington is ready to cooperate with Rodriguez and other Venezuelan leaders, emphasizing that the U.S. will judge them based on their actions, not their public statements.
