British Producers Banned from Advertising Cakes and Ice Cream During the Day

In the UK, on Monday, January 5, a law came into effect prohibiting the advertisement of junk food on television before 9:00 PM and completely online, reports The Guardian.

In this way, the British government hopes to overcome the childhood obesity crisis.

According to new regulations, advertising is banned for 13 categories of products, primarily those high in fat, sugar, and salt.

These include sugary soft drinks, salty snacks, confectionery items, particularly chocolate and candies, ice cream, cakes, sweet biscuits and bars, pastries such as croissants and waffles, sweetened yogurts, pizza, potato chips, and others.

Even some products typically perceived as healthy are banned: "sandwiches of any kind" and "all products primarily found in the breakfast aisle," including cereals and muesli.

The ban does not apply to brand advertising if a specific product is not depicted.
