The President of Latvia does not rule out that a miracle - peace or at least a ceasefire - may happen.
Edgars Rinkēvičs, summarizing the year in international politics in an interview with TV-24, acknowledged that "there has been no complete international isolation of Russia." The head of the Latvian state also had to state that "hopes that economic and political pressure would force Russia to retreat have not been justified." At the same time, Rinkēvičs noted that Russia has not achieved everything it wanted and what it claimed.
Speaking about diplomatic efforts, the President of Latvia did not rule out that a miracle might happen and peace, or a ceasefire, could be achieved. Rinkēvičs once again reminded that Latvia supports the territorial integrity of Ukraine and that Ukraine itself should decide what the size of its army should be. And although there is currently no support in the alliance for Ukraine's accession to NATO, the President of Latvia believes that Ukraine should have the opportunity to join NATO in the future.
