Iran's Attorney General Promises Action if Protests Destabilize the Country

Iran's Attorney General states that the economic protests sweeping the country are legitimate, but any attempt to pose a security threat will meet "decisive resistance."

"Peaceful protests aimed at sustaining livelihoods are part of social and understandable realities," said Mohammad Mohavedi-Azad to state media.

"Any attempt to turn economic protests into a tool for ensuring security, destroying state property, or implementing scenarios developed from abroad will inevitably meet a legitimate, proportionate, and decisive response."

Mass protests continue in Iran, during which Reza Pahlavi — the son of the last Iranian Shah — addressed the citizens. In his statement, he called on the population to participate in nationwide strikes and street actions.

Pahlavi appealed to representatives of various social and professional groups, including civil servants, workers in the energy and transport sectors, truck drivers, medical personnel, teachers, scientists, entrepreneurs, industrialists, pensioners, as well as people who have lost property. He emphasized the need to unite efforts and stated that a key element of the protest movement now is the mass turnout of people onto the streets.

Amid ongoing actions, street slogans increasingly call for the return of monarchical power in Iran. These sentiments are becoming a noticeable part of the protest rhetoric.

On Wednesday, December 31, truck driver unions, considered one of the most influential and organized groups in Iranian society, joined the protests. Their participation, according to observers, could significantly increase pressure on the authorities.

At the same time, the Iranian government announced the closure of state institutions in 25 provinces across the country. This move was described as unusual, with the official reason cited as "unusually cold weather." However, the decision was made against the backdrop of ongoing protests, raising additional questions and discussions within the country.
