WHO Warns the World of the Risk of a New Dangerous Pandemic

The World Health Organization stated that the world is facing increasingly frequent outbreaks of infectious diseases and remains unprepared for a new possible pandemic. Experts do not rule out the emergence of the so-called "virus X" — an unknown pathogen capable of causing a large-scale global crisis.

Outbreaks of infectious diseases around the world are becoming increasingly frequent and threaten humanity with a new global epidemic that could be more devastating than previous ones. This was reported by the World Health Organization (WHO), according to bb.lv.

According to experts from the Global Preparedness Monitoring Board (GPMB), established by WHO and the World Bank, "the world has not become safer" after the coronavirus pandemic and Ebola outbreaks. On the contrary, the emergence of a new "virus X" — a pathogen that transmits from animals to humans — cannot be ruled out. The problem is exacerbated by the fact that funding for development and epidemic surveillance programs is declining, reaching an absolute minimum since 2009.

Experts also note the growing distrust of the population towards government institutions, the spread of misinformation, and inequality in access to vaccines and treatment. In their opinion, humanity is "on the brink of a precipice," and without urgent measures, the world risks facing a series of larger-scale sanitary crises.

Previously, the news portal Daily Star reported that there is a high probability of a new global pandemic, which, according to scientists' forecasts, could occur as early as 2026 and is tentatively named "Disease X." According to the publication, there are four viruses that are actively evolving and could cause a new pandemic. The list of potential threats includes mpox, rubella, avian influenza, and the Oropouche virus.

Specialists warn that the reduction in funding for healthcare systems, the growing distrust of official medicine, and the spread of misinformation make humanity particularly vulnerable to future epidemics. According to experts, without urgent measures, the world may face new sanitary crises, the consequences of which will be more severe than previous pandemics.
