The Commander of the Swiss Armed Forces, Süssli, questioned the role of neutrality in protecting the country.
The Commander of the Armed Forces (AF) of Switzerland, Lieutenant General Thomas Süssli, has questioned the decisive role of neutrality in protecting the country from potential attacks. His words are reported by Neue Zürcher Zeitung (NZZ).
In particular, the lieutenant general challenged claims that the country's neutrality automatically spares it from the risk of attack. According to him, a non-aligned status is beneficial only when it can be defended with arms.
Süssli stated that Switzerland is already facing "cyberattacks, disinformation, and espionage." He also mentioned an alleged connection between 80 residents of the country and Russian intelligence services, but did not provide evidence.
Earlier, Süssli admitted the army's unpreparedness to defend the country against a possible attack.
