The accounts of former 'RUSNANO' head Anatoly Chubais, totaling nearly 11.9 billion rubles (128.21 million euros), have been arrested by the decision of the Arbitration Court of Moscow, DW reports.
The Arbitration Court of Moscow, at the request of the corporation 'RUSNANO', has imposed a protective arrest on the accounts of the former head of this company, Anatoly Chubais, totaling nearly 11.9 billion rubles (128.21 million euros). The property of former Minister of Economy Yakov Urinson and other former managers of 'RUSNANO' has also been seized, TASS agency reported on Monday, December 23.
A total of 13 individuals have been involved as defendants in the case, and their assets have been seized. The court has arrested over 8 billion rubles (86.96 million euros) in the accounts of former Minister of Economy Yakov Urinson. Almost 6 billion rubles have been seized from Boris Podolsky, the former executive director of 'RUSNANO'.
The court emphasized that due to the lack of a list of specific assets, the request for arrest is merely an assumption of the existence of assets, RBC agency writes. In this regard, the arbitration has seized Chubais' assets "within the limits of the claimed amount of 11.9 billion rubles (128.21 million euros).
Court: Defendants 'Not Interested' in Preserving Assets in Russia
"The defendants are not interested in preserving assets on the territory of the Russian Federation, and 'RUSNANO' has reasonable grounds to believe that the defendants' assets may be removed from the Russian Federation shortly after receiving the claim," the court's decision stated.
On December 12, 'RUSNANO' filed a lawsuit against its former leaders for the recovery of 11.9 billion rubles (128.21 million euros) in damages related to the Crocus project. This project was approved by 'RUSNANO' in 2011, with the aim of establishing production of magnetoresistive random access memory (MRAM) in Russia.
This is the second lawsuit from 'RUSNANO' against its former leaders. In April, the court imposed an arrest on the funds and other assets of Anatoly Chubais and seven other defendants, with a total recovery amounting to 5.6 billion rubles (60.88 million euros).
