On Monday in Moscow, General-Lieutenant Fanil Sarvarov, the head of the operational training department of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Russia, was killed as a result of a car explosion, reports LETA citing BBC and UNIAN.

An explosive device was placed under the chassis of a Kia Sorento and detonated a few meters after the vehicle started moving.

56-year-old Sarvarov sustained serious injuries as a result of the explosion. He was taken to the hospital, where he died.

The Russian Investigative Committee stated that investigators are considering various versions of what happened, including the version that Sarvarov's murder was organized by Ukrainian special services.

As a result of the explosion, nearby vehicles were also damaged.

Sarvarov participated in combat operations in Chechnya and also served as part of the Russian military contingent in Syria.
