Russia's statements about the 'liberation' of the city are not true.
Ukrainian military control several outskirts of Volchansk and hold back the occupiers to prevent a breakthrough.
This was reported by Alexander Bunyak, the deputy head of the border post for moral and psychological support of the 'Hart' brigade, on the air of Kyiv24.
"The Defense Forces of Ukraine control the southern, eastern, and western outskirts of Volchansk," the military detailed the situation in the city.
Bunyak added that offensive actions in the settlement of Lyman are nearing completion, meaning the area is being cleared.
"The situation is complicated, but quite controllable; despite the enemy's active assaults, they are not successful," the military noted and added that the brigade's fighters are trying to hold back the enemy to prevent a breakthrough.
Earlier, the head of the press service of the 'Forpost' brigade, Roman Koss, reported that Russia's statements about the capture of the city of Volchansk are actually not true. He noted that the Defense Forces are present in Volchansk, particularly in the southern parts of the city. The head of the border post of the fire support unit of the 'Hart' brigade, with the call sign 'Alpina', noted that the Russians have destroyed Volchansk, but Ukrainian troops are not allowing them to advance further.
Volchansk is an ancient city. The area around the city features the Volchansk settlement of the 8th–9th centuries AD, located on the site of a Khazar settlement. The city's citadel was surrounded by two earthen lines of defense. Between them were large economic complexes-storage facilities. Four settlements with a total area of over 50 hectares adjoined the settlement. There was also a ferrous metallurgy center here.
At the beginning of the 21st century, the population of the city was about 20,000 people.
