This man is also suspected of murdering the Massachusetts Institute of Technology professor in his home earlier this week, a U.S. law enforcement representative said on condition of anonymity.
The suspect in the Brown University shooting was found dead last week on Thursday evening, official sources reported. The suspect was found in a storage facility in New Hampshire, where he rented space. According to American media, he died by suicide.
Speaking at a press conference, Providence Police Chief Oscar Perez said that investigators believe the man acted alone.
"We reviewed financial records, watched video footage, and in this particular case, it was the video that provided us with a description of the vehicle. This was confirmed through a tip received via the information gathering center," Perez said.
Investigators believe this man is connected to the shooting at Brown University, which resulted in two deaths and nine injuries, as well as the murder of a Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) professor who was fatally shot in his home in Brooklyn on Monday, a law enforcement representative told the AP on condition of anonymity.
However, authorities have not yet officially confirmed a link between the two incidents.
The 48-year-old suspect, Claudio Neves Valente, was enrolled in the university's graduate program more than two decades ago but currently had no affiliation with the institution, university president Christina Paxson stated.
Two people died and nine were injured in the mass shooting that occurred last week during final exams. Police briefly detained the suspect but later released him due to a lack of evidence. The investigation took a new turn on Thursday when authorities announced they were seeking a connection between the mass shooting at the university and the attack on the MIT professor.
