Mossad Warns of Possible Terror Attacks Against Jews and Israelis Abroad

The Israeli foreign intelligence service Mossad warns of a possible wave of terrorist attacks against Jews and Israelis following the attack that occurred on Sunday in Australia, reports LETA citing DPA.

Concerns have been raised about further attacks on Jewish sites worldwide. Israeli television channel News 13 reported on Monday that "Mossad" warns of an "unprecedented rise in Iranian and Palestinian alliances to carry out terrorist attacks against Jews and Israelis abroad."

The spokesperson for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that she cannot share intelligence information.

Mossad chief David Barnea conveyed warnings to his counterparts in several European countries and other regions of the world.

In these warnings, he pointed to Iran's increasing readiness for retaliatory attacks following the war between Israel and Iran that occurred in June, during which strikes were also carried out on Iranian nuclear sites. Barnea also warned of possible Palestinian attacks following the war in the Gaza Strip.

On Sunday, two attackers opened fire at an event celebrating the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah on Bondi Beach in Sydney, killing 15 and injuring 41 people.

Police returned fire at the attackers—a father and son—resulting in the 50-year-old father being killed and the 24-year-old son injured. Two police officers were injured in the shootout with the attackers. The injured attacker is in critical condition and has been detained by the police.

Mossad believes that both attackers were trained in Pakistan by members of the terrorist organization Islamic State, reported News 13.

Israeli news portal ynet reported that Israeli security services warned of possible copycat attacks. Among the potential targets are Jewish communities and Israeli diplomatic missions. Israeli embassies and representations worldwide have been instructed not to hold outdoor Hanukkah celebrations this week.
