Euractiv: seven EU countries have already opposed the expropriation of Russian assets.
Seven countries of the European Union (EU) are opposed to the confiscation of frozen Russian assets. This is reported by the Euractiv portal.
Belgium, Hungary, and Slovakia have been joined by Italy, Bulgaria, Malta, and the Czech Republic. The countries are urging the EU to consider "alternative options" for the loan, including the issuance of a common bond.
Earlier, the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, stated that EU countries are facing difficulties in discussing the seizure of frozen Russian assets in Europe to provide a loan to Ukraine. The head of EU diplomacy emphasized that a reparations loan is the most preferred option for financing Kyiv.
On December 12, it became known that the European Union has indefinitely blocked frozen Russian assets. As reported by Reuters, this means that representatives of the bloc have removed a significant obstacle to using the funds to assist Ukraine.
