"The shooter or shooters have not yet been apprehended," they emphasized. Law enforcement and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) are continuing the search for the assailant. The university also urged students to stay in place, lock all doors, and not move around the campus.
Mayor Brett Smiley released a video of the suspected shooter. According to the mayor, another person was injured in the shooting, who left the scene and did not immediately notice their injuries.
Police advise avoiding the scene
The identities of the deceased and injured are being established. The shooting incident occurred in the Barus & Holley building, which houses the university's engineering school. Police recommend avoiding the area.
All students and members of the university community who were in the Barus & Holley building during the incident have been asked to contact law enforcement. After receiving reports of the emergency, many attempted to take cover in classrooms under desks and behind other furniture.
Several exams were scheduled in the building from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM local time.
The identity of the shooter is being established
According to the AP agency, the shooter was dressed in all black. As Deputy Police Chief Timothy O'Hara clarified, the suspect managed to leave the engineering school where the attack occurred.

The Barus & Holley building contains more than 100 laboratories, dozens of classrooms, and several offices. According to witnesses, armed law enforcement officers in tactical gear arrived at the scene. President Donald Trump was informed about the incident, who mentioned the FBI's presence at the crime scene on the social network Truth Social. The university has over 10,400 students.
