Orban doubted that Rutte would remain in the position of NATO Secretary General after his words about Russia.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban questioned whether NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte would remain in his position after his statements about a possible conflict with Russia. He expressed his opinion in an interview with the Mandiner portal.
"Mark Rutte's words are concerning because, aside from reminding us of the horrors of past wars, they contradict what the United States is saying. The question is what the American president [Donald Trump] will say about this, will the NATO Secretary General still have his position after that?" asked the head of the Hungarian government.
According to Orban, an "unprecedented situation" has developed within the bloc, where "the U.S. wants peace, while Europe insists on war."
On December 11, Rutte stated that Europe needs to prepare for a war similar to the one experienced by the grandfathers and great-grandfathers of the region's inhabitants. He also reiterated his call to spend more on defense.
