Estonia asked Ukraine not to strike Russian tankers in the Baltic Sea

Estonia urged Ukraine not to strike Russian vessels in the Baltic Sea after attacks on oil tankers off the coast of Turkey, ERR reports.

Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna stated that it would be "unwise" and could lead to escalation in the region.

"More than 60% of Russian gas and oil exports pass through the Gulf of Finland, and that is a huge volume, especially in a corridor that is only about six nautical miles wide. It would be wise not to do this (strikes on Russian tankers - Ed.), because it could really lead to an escalation of the situation in the Baltic Sea," Tsahkna said.

At the same time, he mentioned that Ukraine has the right to destroy targets on Russian territory, but "international waters are a slightly different matter."

In his opinion, Europe may condemn Ukraine for such strikes, but this may not stop Kyiv if it believes that it will not lead to a complete halt of European support.

As reported by bb.lv, on Friday, November 28, it became known that two sanctioned tankers of the "shadow fleet" exploded almost simultaneously off the coast of Turkey.

The vessels Kairos and Virat were struck by upgraded Sea Baby torpedoes. This was a joint operation of the 13th Main Directorate of Military Counterintelligence of the SBU together with the Navy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

It was also reported that the oil tanker Mersin was damaged off the coast of Senegal as a result of explosions. This was announced on Monday, December 1, by the Turkish company Besiktas Shipping.

According to the company's statement, at approximately 23:45 GMT on November 27, when the vessel was anchored off Dakar, Senegal, four external explosions were heard, resulting in seawater entering the engine room. "There are no casualties, victims, or pollution. The vessel remains safe and stable," noted Besiktas Shipping.
