Businessman Abramovich has been allowed to accuse the authorities of Jersey of conspiracy.
Russian businessman Roman Abramovich has been allowed to file a charge of conspiracy against the authorities of the British island of Jersey. This was stated by his representative to Reuters.
The businessman’s representative called the criminal investigation into corruption and money laundering, initiated in 2022 by the authorities of Jersey against Abramovich, unfounded. Over the three years, no charges have been brought against the Russian.
At the same time, the island's authorities admitted to destroying data related to the case and systematically refused to provide information about the progress of the investigation to the businessman’s representatives, on this basis he is filing a lawsuit for conspiracy.
In September, The Guardian reported that the authorities of Jersey suspect Abramovich of corruption and money laundering. The island's attorney general requested documents from the federal criminal court of Switzerland regarding the businessman’s bank accounts. The investigation aims to establish the sources of Abramovich's wealth, acquired in the 1990s and 2000s.
