All Men Have Disappeared in the 'Ukrainian Venice'

NYT: There are no men left in the 'Ukrainian Venice' except for the mayor.

In Ukraine, in the city of Vylkove in the Odessa region, which is referred to as the 'Ukrainian Venice', there are no men left except for the city's mayor, Matviy Ivanov. This is reported by The New York Times (NYT).

The publication's reporters state that all men of conscription age have either gone to the combat zone or are hiding from mobilization. The city is located near the borders with Romania and Moldova. It is called 'Venice' because its streets are represented as canals.

The mayor of Vylkove explains that he is the 'last remaining man' in the city. All employees of the city hall, except for Ivanov, are women. 'Women are everywhere now (...) They like it, they control all areas of activity and are now in charge here,' the mayor summarized.

The day before, the driver of American actress Angelina Jolie, who visited Ukraine, was detained at a checkpoint and asked to go to the Territorial Recruitment Center (TCK — the Ukrainian equivalent of a military enlistment office) to 'clarify some details.' He emphasized that all documents were in order, and he had the results of a recently completed medical examination.
