“Absurd!” In Russia, Calls Have Been Made to Cancel New Year’s Celebrations

The "Forty Forties" movement has called for the cancellation of New Year’s celebrations in Russia - so that people cannot rest with their families and instead think about the war. This has been called absurd on social media.

The Orthodox movement positioning itself as "Forty Forties" has called for the cancellation of New Year’s celebrations in Russia. This was reported by the coordinator and founder of the movement, Andrey Kormukhin.

He explained that the center prepared an open appeal from residents of Moscow, St. Petersburg, and other cities in the country, urging the cancellation of New Year’s celebrations and directing funds to help children and soldiers participating in the war with Ukraine.

"The appeal emphasizes that many people are donating part of their salaries and pensions to support the front, as well as actively participating in volunteer initiatives to collect humanitarian aid," he said. On social media, this has been called a show and absurd. "People should not be resting now; they are being forced to think about the war. Who benefits from this?" people are questioning.
