The implementation of this project will allow the country to join the world's 'first league'.
The first South Korean K2 'Black Panther' tank in the Polish version K2PL will be assembled at the defense enterprise Bumar-Labedy S.A in 2028, announced the director of the plant, Monika Kruczek.
According to her, the production of the first South Korean K2 'Black Panther' tank in the Polish modification K2PL will start at the Bumar-Labedy S.A plant in 2028.
Kruczek specified: "In 2026, training for the personnel will begin, who in 2028 will start the production of the first K2PL tank at the Bumar-Labedy enterprise, which will appear in Poland."
The plant director noted that the implementation of this project will allow Poland to join the "first league" of world tank manufacturing, as the country will acquire the necessary technologies for the modernization and modification of tanks. She added that the agreement between the Polish consortium PGZ and the South Korean company Hyundai-Rotem will provide the Bumar-Labedy plant with the opportunity to produce not only K2 tanks but also repair-evacuation vehicles and military bridge layers based on them.
According to the signed agreement, Poland will be able to independently produce K2 'Black Panther' tanks. A total of 61 units will be assembled at the Bumar-Labedy enterprise in the city of Gliwice.
As reported by the media, Poland has decided to completely replace Soviet models of weapons with Western ones. Meanwhile, experts predict shortages of spare parts for South Korean K2 tanks in Poland.
