Russia expressed a strong protest to Japan purchasing Russian gas

The MFA of Russia expressed a strong protest to the Japanese embassy.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Russia expressed a strong protest to the Japanese embassy regarding the Joint Exercise 2025 military drills. This was reported on the official website of the agency.

"A strong protest was lodged with the Japanese embassy in Moscow regarding the Joint Exercise 2025 drills that took place from October 20 to 31, which covered the entire territory of Japan, including areas of Hokkaido in geographical proximity to the Russian Federation," the MFA noted.

According to the foreign ministry, provocative military activity off the coast of Russia poses a potential threat to the security of the country's Far Eastern borders. The ministry expressed concern that a ground-based Typhon missile system battery, intended for launching medium and shorter-range missiles, had not been removed from Japan. It was delivered as part of the Japan-U.S. Resolute Dragon 25 exercises held from September 11 to 25.

Earlier, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, stated that the path to resuming dialogue with Japan would only be possible after Tokyo abandons its anti-Russian course aimed at harming Russia.

Meanwhile, Japan is actively purchasing Russian gas due to its low price - this is causing dissatisfaction in the U.S..
