The journalist has been arrested in absentia.
As reported today by the portal meduza.io, the Investigative Committee of Russia has completed the investigation into the criminal case against Meduza's publisher Galina Timchenko and has forwarded it to the court.
Timchenko is accused of organizing the activities of a "undesirable" organization. The publisher of Meduza has been declared internationally wanted and has been arrested in absentia, the Investigative Committee added.
The criminal case against the publisher of Meduza became known in May 2025. According to the investigation, in September 2024 and in March 2025, Timchenko published videos online "to foster protest sentiments among citizens, as well as to involve them in the activities of the organization, which has been recognized as undesirable on the territory of Russia." The Investigative Committee did not specify which videos are being referred to.
In June, the Ministry of Internal Affairs declared Timchenko wanted, and in July, the Cheryomushki District Court of Moscow arrested the publisher of Meduza in absentia.
The Prosecutor General's Office of Russia declared Meduza an "undesirable organization" in 2023. In 2024, the Ministry of Justice declared Galina Timchenko a "foreign agent."
