The 92-year-old president of Cameroon, Paul Biya, has been reelected for an eighth term. This was reported by Agence France-Presse (AFP) citing the election results.
It is reported that the leader of the African country received 53.66 percent of the votes. Thus, Biya will remain in power until he is 99 years old.
The Cameroonian leader is the oldest president in the world and the second longest-serving non-hereditary leader, surpassed only by the president of Equatorial Guinea, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo.
Biya announced his decision to run for president again in July. "Rest assured that my determination to serve you matches the urgency of the challenges we face. Together, we can overcome any obstacles," he wrote on social media platform X.
