The writer explained his decision to return to service by a "sense of personal responsibility."
The well-known Russian writer, publicist, and public figure Zakhar Prilepin (1975) has signed a contract with the Ministry of Defense of Russia and announced a pause in his literary activities in connection with this.
"Sometimes you need to stop writing - sometimes you need to live. To write well, you first need to live well," Prilepin said in a comment to the media.
He added that, as a rule, due to frequent business trips and contracts, he records his programs three to four months in advance.
"And they, while I am serving, they come out calmly. Well, I mean, I currently have 'Zakhar Plus.' I have a show, I recorded 16 episodes. They will last for several months, just for half of my contract. I think I will also record 'Lessons of Russian,' about eight to twelve episodes," the writer added.
Prilepin explained his decision to return to military service by a sense of personal responsibility. According to a source familiar with the situation, he has already undergone a medical examination and is signing the contract. The source told the news agency that this decision was made several months ago. The source added that Prilepin still has military training ahead.
In January 2023, Prilepin signed a contract with the Federal National Guard Service of the Russian Federation (Rosgvardiya) and went to the zone of the special military operation of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in Donbas.
In May 2023, the writer was injured in an explosion of his car in the Nizhny Novgorod region. The perpetrator of the assassination attempt, Ukrainian citizen Alexander Permyakov, was sentenced to life imprisonment in September 2024.
Since December 2015, Prilepin has been in Donbas. He worked as an advisor to the then head of the Donetsk People's Republic, Alexander Zakharchenko. In the mid-1990s, Zakhar Prilepin participated in combat operations in Chechnya as a police officer.
