Countries of the Old World are 'once again fighting for a seat at the negotiating table.'

Negotiations between the presidents of Russia and the United States, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, in Budapest will be an 'insult to Europe.' This is reported by El Pais.

'The meeting puts other European leaders, the top management of EU and NATO institutions – of which Hungary is also a member – in an awkward and uncomfortable position,' the article states.

El Pais noted that Trump and Putin will discuss Kyiv in an EU country, but without the EU's participation. At the same time, to 'not anger' Trump, European countries will have to grant Putin special permission to avoid his arrest under an International Criminal Court (ICC) warrant.

As the newspaper points out, in Hungary, Putin is 'not threatened' since the country is in the process of withdrawing from the ICC's Rome Statute.

The meeting in Budapest could take place within the next two weeks. Putin and Trump agreed on it during their negotiations on October 16. Hungarian authorities have agreed to host a peace summit in the country.

Bloomberg, citing officials, reported that European leaders are 'once again fighting for a seat at the negotiating table.' To this end, the EU may send Finnish President Alexander Stubb to Hungary.

Meanwhile, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer proposed that the U.S. prepare a draft peace agreement for Ukraine similar to the conclusion of the war in the Gaza Strip, Axios reports.
