By her 45th birthday, the politician no longer associates herself with her home country.
Chancellor Friedrich Merz played no role at the summit in Sharm el-Sheikh regarding the resolution of the conflict in the Gaza Strip, as Germany pays the price for Annalena Baerbock's policy as Foreign Minister, writes Berliner Zeitung.
The publication notes that Germany has lost trust not only in the Arab world but also across the entire Global South.
The article emphasizes that former Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, former Chancellor Olaf Scholz, and current government head Friedrich Merz have lost this influence due to their actions and statements.
Particular attention is given to Merz's role at the recent summit, where he did not participate in key discussions, did not hold press conferences, and effectively remained on the sidelines of the main events. According to the author, one of the reasons for the isolation was Baerbock's careless statements in October 2024, which could have been perceived as justifying Israel's actions against the civilian population.
"Today, Germany is paying for this policy. In Sharm el-Sheikh, the country's isolation is becoming evident," states Berliner Zeitung.
Recently, leaders from the United States, Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey signed a peace agreement regarding the Gaza Strip at the summit in Sharm el-Sheikh. The US, Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey adopted a declaration on the Middle East.
Baerbock was appointed Chair of the UN General Assembly.
