Russia is trying to reduce aid to Ukraine through various provocations in European countries, said Latvia's ambassador to NATO Maris Riekstins in an interview with TV3.
He emphasized that Russia's plan to capture Ukraine in three days has failed - the war has been going on for more than three and a half years.
"If Russia's strategy was a quick victory in Ukraine, then that strategy has failed," the ambassador said. Now Russia's plan may involve various provocative actions in Europe. However, he emphasizes that not all incidents, such as those involving drones, can be attributed to Russia's actions.
Russia is trying to resolve the problem in Ukraine, where it is bogged down.
Russia understands that victory in Ukraine is impossible as long as the West continues to support Ukraine. Therefore, one of the goals is to create a sense of insecurity in Western societies, so that people become worried and ask their governments to allocate more resources for the defense of their countries, while simultaneously trying to find solutions through negotiations with Russia, the ambassador explains. The goal is to stop aid to Ukraine.
The West understands Russia's tactics, which is why it is not able to achieve its goal, Riekstins added.
