The White House criticized the Nobel Committee after American President Donald Trump did not receive the Nobel Peace Prize and stated that the committee "puts politics above peace." This was written by White House Communications Director Steven Chun on social media X.
As reported by bb.lv, the Nobel Peace Prize for 2025, which attracted special attention due to Trump's desire to receive it, was awarded to Maria Corina Machado from Venezuela.
In response, Chun stated that the Nobel Committee has proven that for it, "politics is more important than peace."
"President Trump will continue to broker peace agreements, end wars, and save lives. He has the heart of a humanitarian, and there will never be anyone like him who could move mountains with the strength of his will," added the White House Communications Director.
Meanwhile, Norway is preparing for unpredictable deteriorations in relations with the U.S. In particular, the leader of the Socialist Left Party of Norway, Kirsti Bergstø, and her press secretary for foreign policy stated that Oslo must be "prepared for anything."
"The Nobel Committee is an independent body, and the Norwegian government does not participate in determining the laureates of the prize. But I am not sure that Trump knows this. We must be ready for anything from his side," Bergstø said.
Newspaper columnist and analyst Harald Stanghelle suggested that Trump's revenge might manifest itself in the form of tariffs, demands for increased contributions to NATO, or even declaring Norway an enemy.
