In war, the ratio of personnel between the sides plays a decisive role. While quality and technology can partially compensate for a lack of personnel, it won't save in the face of numerical superiority, and reserves will need to be sought. This was discussed on the air of Kyiv24 by veteran, former commander of the Aidar battalion platoon, and military expert Yevhen Diky.
"War has its own arithmetic, and this arithmetic is very harsh and relentless. It comes down to the fact that if you have significantly fewer personnel than the enemy, no matter what you do, you won't be able to jump above a certain threshold," noted the analyst.
According to him, if you have at least two to three times fewer people, this can still be compensated for by more effective management, the quality of personnel, and better technologies.
"But when the difference is 10-15 times, nothing can compensate for that. You just need more people. And any commander, especially a high-level commander, runs into this limitation and sooner or later starts shouting, 'Hey, rear, give us people, reinforce us, because we can no longer protect you,'" said Diky.
In his opinion, at the level of units, "it is still possible to recruit exclusively volunteers," but at the level of the entire front and even individual branches of the military - it is not possible.
