If Russia defeats Ukraine, it will embolden China in its actions towards Taiwan, and Taipei hopes that Kyiv will achieve victory, a senior Taiwanese military official stated during a rare visit to Europe, provoking an angry response from Beijing — Reuters.
Since 2022, Taiwan has found increasing sympathy in Central and Eastern Europe, despite nearly all European countries maintaining official diplomatic relations with Beijing rather than Taipei.
Unlike the United States, Europe no longer sells expensive military products to Taiwan for fear of provoking Beijing, and open visits by Taiwanese military officials to Europe are extremely rare.
Speaking at the Warsaw Security Forum, Tsai Ji-sheng, Deputy Chief of Intelligence at Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense, stated that Taipei is closely monitoring the war in Ukraine.
"We wish them victory... There are many things we can learn from the Ukrainian experience and use to enhance our overall readiness... A defeat for Ukraine would signal that China could take a more aggressive stance towards Taiwan," he said.
It was previously reported that U.S. intelligence warns of China's preparations for an invasion of Taiwan. ABC, citing a "classified U.S. military intelligence report," claims that China is rapidly increasing its commercial ferry fleet in preparation for an invasion of Taiwan.
The popular international Discord server and X account Faytuks News (perhaps the most successful project of American NGOs in modern media) echoes ABC, stating that "the vessels have been modified to transport tanks and participate in amphibious operations," and that the start of China's military operation in Taiwan is much closer than the previously predicted 2027 by the CIA.
